Performing Umrah is a deeply spiritual journey that purifies the soul and brings one closer to the Almighty. Whether you are traveling for the first time or returning after years, understanding the proper rituals and steps ensures your pilgrimage is performed smoothly according to Sunnah.

1. Entering Ihram

The journey begins at the Miqat boundary where pilgrims enter the state of Ihram. For men, this involves wearing two unstitched white sheets, while women wear modest regular Islamic attire covering their body while leaving face and hands uncovered. Reciting the Talbiyah frequently during this state is highly recommended:

"Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la shareeka laka labbayk..."

2. Performing Tawaf

Upon arriving at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, pilgrims proceed to perform Tawaf around the Holy Kaaba. It consists of walking seven complete counter-clockwise circuits around the Kaaba, starting and ending at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad) with a gesture or kiss if possible.

3. Sa'i between Safa and Marwah

After Tawaf and praying two rakats behind Maqam Ibrahim, pilgrims proceed to the hills of Safa and Marwah to perform Sa'i. This involves walking back and forth seven times between the two hills, commemorating the devotion of Bibi Hajar (AS) searching for water for her infant son Hazrat Ismail (AS).

4. Halq or Taqseer (Shaving or Trimming Hair)

The final ritual of Umrah is Halq (complete shaving of the head for men) or Taqseer (trimming of hair by at least an inch for men and a fingertip length for women). Once completed, the restrictions of Ihram are lifted, and your Umrah is successfully fulfilled.
